“It is our wish to inspire our students and encourage them to realize through their studies the importance, the potential, and also the beauty of the methods used for solving mechanical engineering problems, actively contributing in this way to the improvement of living standards for the benefit of the society.”

A Mechanical Engineer develops technical systems through energy, material and signal conversion, in a way that facilitates problem solving under conflicting requirements and specifications, generating efficient solutions based on the study, design and manufacturing of a broad range of mechanical engineering products.

The Department of Mechanical Engineering aims to the provision of high-quality education, offering undergraduate, postgraduate and doctoral studies that cover both traditional and constantly evolving subjects in the broader field of Mechanical Engineering, integrating cutting-edge research and technology by means of modern-day education methods and tools, supported at the same time by advanced laboratory classes attended by small groups of students.

Subject areas of a Mechanical Engineer include those of mechanics, machine elements, mechanical structure design, material removal (cutting) processes, additive manufacturing (3D printing) technologies, aerodynamics, materials’ technology, heat transfer, fluid mechanics, thermal engines and fluid flow machines, utilization of renewable (soft) energy sources, protection of the environment, heating, cooling and air-conditioning, measurements’ technology, operations research and production management.

We kindly and respectfully welcome all young women and men who enjoy the prospect of studying a modern subject that will enable them to design, examine, manufacture and produce the improved version of e.g. a vehicle, a plane, a bicycle or a wind turbine as well as any relevant subcomponent, such as a gearbox, a braking system, a steering system or a suspension system. In addition to that, they will be taught and become familiar with the process of product planning from the stage of design to the stages of production and recycling –after the end of the product’s life cycle- and in a way that factors in the aspects of optimal energy efficiency and minimum environmental footprint.

Acknowledging the above, we believe that theoretical background in both traditional and modern courses, combined with high-quality teaching supported by laboratory classes in small students groups, is a key element and a competitive advantage in maintaining the strong enthusiasm of our students, fueling their passion and love for the subject of studies they decided to embark on.
