Short CV

Konstantinos Stergiou is a professor at the University of West Attica and since 2023 Dean of the Faculty of Engineering. He was the Head of the Mechanical Engineering Department from 2014 to 2023.

He holds an Integrated Masters Degree in Mechanical Engineering from the National Technical University of Athens and a PhD from the Technical University of Darmstadt, Germany, on a DAAD scholarship.

Since May 2023 he is National Representative to the European Commission for the European Strategy Forum on Research Infrastructures (ESFRI). Since May 2013 he is Honorary Professor at Kingston University London – Faculty of Science, Engineering & Computing.

Since 2002 he is Academic Director of the MSc in Advanced Industrial and Manufacturing Systems, a collaboration with the Faculty of Science, Engineering & Computing at Kingston University London. Since 2016 he has been Director of the Engineering Design Laboratory.

He has professional experience in technical bureaus and research projects and has designed and implemented corporate training programmes for manufacturing plants in countries in and outside Europe.

He has 30 years of teaching experience in Engineering Design, Computer Aided Design, Computer Aided Engineering, Reverse Engineering and Additive Manufacturing. His research activities include integration of CAE in CAD, multivariate optimization methods in CAM and engineering problems, predictive models based on artificial intelligence for optimization of mechanical properties in additive manufactured structures.

He is the author of 8 books, most of which are the official textbooks given to engineering students in various universities in Greece. He has 130 publications in international journals and conferences, supervises 2 PhD students and has successfully supervised 2 PhD theses, 65 postgraduate theses, 60 bachelor theses. He is the project leader of the POSEIDON student team, which designs and builds vehicles for participation in the international Shell Eco Marathon economy competitions, as well as in the international Formula Student competitions, with significant international awards.

He has served as Research Project Leader for research projects such as:

Head of Use Case “Smart Structures” in the UniWA Innovation Hub for Artificial Intelligence Research Project. Scope: Smart structures with optimised mechanical behaviour adapted to loading conditions by means of multi-metal 3D printing coupled with the use of Artificial Intelligence. Funding upon competitive procedure from the Regional Development Programme of Attica (NSRF). (2021-present).
Scientific Manager of the ARCHIMIDES III Research Project on “Experimental and Theoretical Investigation of the degradation of the mechanical properties of aerospace aluminium alloy 2024 due to corrosion”. 2012-2015.
Scientific Coordinator of ARCHIMIDES II Research Project. Title: Development of methods for calculation and improvement of engineering components in an integrated CAD/CAE product design environment. Main objective was the development of methods in CAD systems to enhance the design of engineering products. (1/1/2005-31/12/2007)
Main research team member of the ARCHIMIDES I research project entitled: Structural fragility monitoring of structures using piezoelectric sensors. (1/1/2004-31/12/2004)
